I can not believe that I am already in my third term here at Kaplan! If you had asked me a few years ago if I would ever go to college, I would have laughed. Formal school was nothing I was ever interested in. I had better things to do all throughout high school than sit inside and study and worry about my future. I never enjoyed being told what to do and being corn holed into learning something that held no interest to me. I hated being told what types of books to read, because they were always some politically correct, mass market junk. I had other ideas of how to educate myself. I was a life guard who spent every day of summer on the beach from sun up to sun down. I picked my own books, and learned about life as it came along. I graduated by the skin of my teeth, but I didn't care, I was done! With no interest or money for college, I joined the Air Force and went away to basic training and technical school shortly after graduation. I met my future husband and learned how to load bombs on fighter jets. I was getting paid to work outside and get dirty. I had a family while all my friends had student loans and term papers to worry about. I got paid to move to Italy for four years! I had a well paying career, a wonderful husband and two great kids, while my college friends, who thought they were better than me, moved back home with their parents.
It wasn't until I got out of the military to take care of my girls that I felt like I was ready for school. My husband had become a body builder a few years ago and I was slowly learning how to help him get the physique he wanted. Then we found out he had extremely high cholesterol, and my focus shifted to his health. He was only 24, and we still had a long way to go before he was off the hook! So I learned everything I could about lowering his cholesterol. Nutrition then became a passion for me. I wanted to learn everything I could. Then my hubby suggested I go to school and get paid for what I knew. I though what the hell, I had the GI Bill to pay 100% of my tuition! I finally had the time to dedicate to my schooling, and I was ready! Then I found Kaplan, and fell in love with the online learning environment. It was a perfect fit for me. I could study on my own time, and not be stuck in a classroom worried about my girls at home. I love teaching myself the material while at the same time having the interaction with the other students.
Going back to school was the best decision of my life. The timing was perfect. I was mentally ready to dedicate myself to school. I am excited about what my future holds, and while I am enjoying the journey, I can not wait to reach my destination!

Wonderful Idaho!!
Hi everyone! It has been beautiful here in Idaho the past few days. The temp has been in the high 40s and into the 50s!!! Its been great. My girls can actually play outside without having to be all bundled up. I love beening able to go for a walk and not freeze to death before I even reach the mailbox! I am excited to get this blog up and running. I think we will have a nice time reading each others posts. It will help us get to know each other better on a more personal level. The discussions boards are so structured, this will be a nice change.
